Nectar offers a mobile app allowing customers to find out about offers, check their points and locate stores. The project is a collaboration with Sainsbury’s, with different versions of the app available to customers of each brand. Nectar wanted to understand customer needs and preferences, to help guide future development.

Join The Dots conducted qualitative research using a mix of methods, including user testing, card sorting and semi-structured questionnaires. Each session was recording using a tailor-made phone cradle, allowing detailed video analysis of users’ behaviour.

To build a more rounded picture Join The Dots drew on other sources including Apple mobile download data, Nectar’s direct marketing reports and industry best practice.

We helped Nectar and Sainsbury’s to prioritise their development plans, working to align the app with their overall customer engagement strategy.
